Winter can be tough on your e-bike whether you’re riding or not. With the right storage and maintenance techniques, you can keep it in tip top condition. Here are three tips to extend the lifespan of your e-bike and ensure it’s ready to ride whenever you are.
1. Winter Storage – Storing your e-bike indoors and out of the elements is key, but if your garage isn’t temperature controlled then there’s one extra step to keep your battery in peak form. Since extreme cold and moisture can damage it over time, remove it from your e-bike to store it at room temperature in a dry place.
Bosch also recommends charging your battery to 30-60% of its full capacity before disconnecting it from the bike. This will help to preserve the battery’s charge and prevent it from discharging too much during storage.
2. Riding Maintenance – A little foul weather won’t get in the way of your e-bike adventures, but it can be extra hard on your drivetrain. Cleaning and lubricating your chain, derailleurs, and other moving parts will keep it free from sand, grit, salt, rust, and wear. Use a bike-specific degreaser to clean the drivetrain and a climate-specific lube (typically "wet lube" for winter-time) to protect it from the elements.
3. Find a Pro – If you have questions about storing your battery, protecting your drivetrain, or your e-bike needs some TLC, it is always a good idea to check in with a qualified mechanic. Our Bosch-Certified Team has extensive experience with e-bikes and is passionate about getting yours riding like a dream. Schedule a service appointment today!
