For such a long distance trip we wanted to build a scooter that was robust and simple to maintain and availability of parts ,Vespa PX is such a scooter and a 150cc is the size a Vespa wants to be, the perfect durable set up.
Take the standard model and improve it for all the things that are important to doing such a journey. The motor is standard gearbox clutch and crank just good quality and with the finest bearings and viton rubber oilseals , the electrics are SIP vape DC version for better lighting with LEDS and battery power for accessroies. The rear hub is a special strenghten classic Spanish hub with two cones either side that grip the shaft better on taper like grip. The aliminium these hubs were made of were of a superior quality so it will not shear the drive splines. The stand is strengthened with 5 mm thick plates top and bottom and drilled out to 7 mm bolts to spread the load and not bend the frame ,it’s also a locking stand.
The luggage racks are the Spanish postie bike rear rack with the ali Givi box positioned in the passenger seat postion for better weight distribution , rear extra long American Vespa PX BBQ rear rack for temperory carrying space, front rack for light gear.
Seat is the super comfortable Spanish postie bike single saddle well shaped and padded finished in tan for better sun protection , even the colour of the scooter is gauaged for the hotter countries Ross will be travelling through , reflecting heat and not absorbing it as well as a better seend than a dark colour.Led lights throughout and extra front spots and an emergancy rear led tail light that works insependantly if needed.
Handlebars are LML Select steel bars that clamp to the fork , very strong and will not snap like a PX ali headset or twist like a T5 handle bar.
Suspension is indian Escort brand on the front simple and heavy duty , easy to change with the small hugger mudguard ,
Rear suspension is Bitubo adjustable , again simple and heavy duty , easy access hole drilled in the frame at the top for quick change.
Fly screen is again Spanish ( notice the them here with old Spanish accessories , they made stuff for their Vespa’s super strong. ) a screen to mount and attach phone holder and protect it and him from the elements , with mirrors ( very important )
Crash bars are drilled into the bodywork and rocksolidly attached and close to the body for strength, floor is double plated with chequered plates.
Security is a cable lock , steering lock , stand lock and a tracker on board.
Spares on board include a complet clutch , levers , cables inner tubes , plugs , ignition coil , stator plate. Tools are all essentail Vespa size spanners sockets , as well as all the screwdrivers , mole grips , hammer cable cutters and sundries .
It’s hard to draw the line on what to bring while not overloading , so think what can stop you in your tracks and leave you stranded so make it the best it can be and think what can leave you stranded and carry it spare,so at leaset you can get to the next town/Village to make a proper repair .
Look after the machine having some basic mechinical knowledge and it’s look after you .
