I went to see my friend Shawn Mahoney while on a trip to Boston ,Massachusetts USA.
Shawn showed me round his workshops and his Electric conversion on his Heinkel Bubble car using a 12" 10kW hub motor in a specially made swing arm and one off battery packs. The video shows the layout of the conversion and how Shawn designed it to neatly replace the old motor without making any modifications to the chassis ( much like what we do with our own electric conversions ) that way this vehicle can always revert to the original petrol motor.
When we went for a drive it was, quiet and very nippy with a smooth top speed of 55 mph certainly a lot more reliable and simple set up compared to the old combustion engine according to Shawn.
Shawn and I are currently working on an electric conversion kit for Heinkel scooters ( which Shawn has one ) watch this space !
