A frequent difference of opinion between EV owners is whether they should own a tethered or untethered charge point.
I filmed this in the summer of 2020 for use in a post and it’s a recurring question from new owners about whether to go tethered or untethered.
Quite simply, it will depend on personal circumstances, but this was my reasoning from the startβ¦
When we installed our initial one back in 2014 (now replaced with the zappi), I decided to future-proof by going untethered. This proved to be a good idea, as demonstrated here.
You should always have a dedicated AC cable in the vehicle anyway, so buying an untethered unit with a cable design only for home use is pretty much equivalent to paying the extra for tethered, only it gives you more flexibility about length of cable.
