At 86 years old, George Lombard is decades older than most other riders in the Cherry Capital Cycling Club, but he can still fly ahead of the pack on their weekly rides to Sutton’s Bay. That’s all thanks to his electric bicycle.
A farming accident cost Lombard his left leg below the knee as a teenager, but that didn’t stop him from competing as a cross-country skier in the 1988 Winter Paralympics in Austria. He was 53 at the time. Lombard has always stayed active skiing and cycling until two years ago when the knee on his “good leg” needed to be replaced.
“I was laid up for about six months and couldn’t ride. I went out with the gang the first time and could barely stay with them,”said Lombard…
