I am NOT having fun trying to replace the electric heater in our 2012 Chevy Volt! Overall, I’ve really loved this car, but the heating system is a plumbing nightmare!
Please click SHOW MORE!
There appears to be a hole in the electric heater. Running the heat makes vaporized coolant smoke come out from under the hood right where the heater is. I have a junkyard heater to replace it with.
I already removed the cover of the engine and the intake manifold. The manifold was challenging – lots of sensors, connectors, fuel line, etc. and then it’s still a trick to squeeze it out from behind the engine!
After doing that, a person can see the heater, but it is on the firewall behind so many hoses, below A/C components, and above the steering. NOT an easy place to access!
Likewise, all the hoses pretty much block each other. Very difficult to disconnect any of them when they are just packed in so tight!
