Chevy Volt Heater Tear-Down: Resistance Varies with Temperature

I tore apart the bad electric heater I removed from my 2012 Chevy Volt PHEV. The resistance of the heating elements was NOT what I expected! Will it change with temperature?
Please click SHOW MORE!

In the heater, there are 15 individual heating elements. All of them are in parallel. Using a nominal 360V for the battery pack, and the about 900 Ohms that I measured, the heater should only make a little over 2,000 watts of heat! I know it can do more than that!

So, I measured again, only this time, I pointed my heat gun directly at a heater element while measuring resistance. Sure enough! The resistance dropped rather quickly!

This means that the heat actually produces considerably MORE heat once the elements are warm!

Interesting stuff, seeing how resistance changes with temperature!
