We are stoked to introduce you to John, our new Service Manager and ebike extraordinare! Here are John’t top 5 ebike service tips to keep your ride happy and rolling like a dream. From gentle cleaning to battery care, we’ve got you covered for a smooth ride!
1. Don’t power wash your bike – Give it a gentle clean and wipe down when it needs it, especially focusing on the brakes, suspension, and drivetrain to keep them running smooth.
2. Maintain your chain (except you chain-free, belt drive folks! You can skip to #3). After your gentle clean, add a light application of chain lube, and wipe off the excess to keep your drivetrain in tip top shape for the long haul. Watch our One Minute Post-Ride Cleanup Routine for the skinny on wipe down and chain lube application at https://www.oregon-ebikes.com/blogs/blog/one-minute-post-ride-ebike-cleanup-routine
3. Brakes need love, too! Especially on heavier e-bikes, brake pads and rotors do a LOT of work. Keeping rotors clean and straight will make their job easier AND quieter.
4. Be nice to your battery – It’s the most expensive and (arguably) important component on your bike! Extend its life by storing it between 40 and 90 degrees. If temps dip below or above that range, it’s best to remove the battery and store it inside.
5. Use your odometer to keep you on track for regular service intervals – For a new ebike, bring it in after the first 200-300 mile “break-in period” and every 600 miles after that. Our technicians can hook it up to the Bosch diagnostic tool, update your software, and ensure you’re getting the best performance.
